LPD Lyrical annotations/essays
These are works-in-progress, but I have had approval from Phil Knight (The Silverman) to share them. If anyone has anything to add, please write me and I will edit appropriately. These aren't meant to be the end-all-be-all meanings to Edward's lyrics, but they make nice reference companions, and represent years of talking with the band and personal study. Please let me know if you found them of any interest at all - I hope you enjoy them! -Kris http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Soma_Bath http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Before_The_End http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:It_Rots_Your_Liver http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Black_Highway http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Phallus_Dei http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Waiting_For_The_Call_-_You_%27N%27_Me http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Defeated http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Game http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Thursday_Night_Fever http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:The_Chemical_Playschool http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Frosty http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Stoned_Obituary http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Dolls%27_House http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Hanging_Gardens http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Wall_Purges_Night http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Lisa%27s_Party http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Arzhklahh_Olgevezh%21 http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Tower_One http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Poppy_Day http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Rope_And_Glory http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Gorgon_Zola%27s_Baby http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Fifteen_Flies_In_The_Marmalade http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Femme_Mirage http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:I_Am_The_Way%2C_The_Truth%2C_The_Light http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Agape http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Golden_Dawn http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:A_Message_From_Our_Sponsor http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Go_Ask_Alice http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Tower_Six http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:The_Dairy http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Jewel_In_The_Crown http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Our_Lady_In_Kharki http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:The_Gallery http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Cloud_Zero http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Under_Glass http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:The_Grain_Kings http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Belladonna http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:A_Space_Between http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Cheraderama http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Fourth_Secret http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Expresso_Noir http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Prague_Spring http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Pavane http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:A_Crack_In_Melancholy_Time http://lyricwiki.org/The_Legendary_Pink_Dots:Madame_Guillotine_%28Track_1%29 | | Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 | 9:54 pm [3z13]

New legendarypinkdots.org!
Hello everyone... it's been quite the journey, but we have the new Legendary Pink Dots website up and running! Hooray! We moved into a more modern era and got ourselves a content management system (Joomla!). This means that updates will be more frequent, and it also means that the site will be more interactive (i.e., fans can correct or add information to the site). In other words, the more involvement from the community, the better the website will be! Before you click to the site, I want to make one quick disclaimer: The graphic design and layout are *very* simple, and not the vision we have of a dark but colorful stained glass motif in an old stone church. What you're seeing is a default template of Joomla!, which is relatively easy to "theme" or "skin" (however, I could use some help with the design... if you're interested, contact me). So rather than looking with a critical eye to the colours or graphics, think more about all the new things you can now browse and do... we will give it all a facelift soon enough :) Without further ado, the new... legendarypinkdots.org(NOTE: none of the information from the old website was lost (pictures, trading post, etc). We're still working on integrating everything.) If you look at the NEWS section, you'll see that we've imported and sorted the old news archive into over 250 individually linkable articles (you can sign up for the RSS feed to read the new articles in your favorite RSS Reader). We've also posted a bunch of old interviews with the band (if you have more, please send them). The biggest accomplishment, by far, has been the discography. It is now integrated with Freebase. Freebase is basically a "database for the world". It works just like wikipedia, where anyone can edit or contribute to information. When you do, the Legendary Pink Dots discography becomes more and more complete (the official discography will still reside at brainwashed.com/lpd). I've personally really enjoyed using Freebase, it's very exciting! Because we're using Joomla! as the content management system, we can allow there to be many editors. You don't need to know programming or PHP in order to correct errors or fix bad formatting in articles. If you would like an editing account, please just let me know. I would be happy to have help. Involving yourself in the non-legendarypinkdots.org sites is great too. Keeping vandalism off of the Wikipedia article or even enhancing that article is very helpful. You can add cover art and track information to Freebase, making the discography more complete. Or upload your photos of the band to the Flickr group. There are a lot of new things comings! So stay tuned... Please don't hesitate to write if you have any questions or ideas about the site! | | Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 | 5:37 am [nekokaiju]

LPD Cassette Archives Box! I cannot recommend this outstanding new release highly enough. Raymond worked brilliant magic remastering 5 LPs worth of early, super-rare Dots material originally released only on extremely-limited cassette editions. It includes 2 LPs culled from Chemical Playschool Volumes 1&2 (!!!), two LPs from Kleine Krieg, and a live concert bootleg from a Dots show in Cologne in 1983. Each LP contains about 50 minutes of music. The quality of the linen-fiber box and colored sleeves is outstanding, and the heavy vinyl pressing is the finest I've ever heard. Far better analog full-spectrum reproduction than any CD. This is a vinyl-only issue and, though expensive, it is well worth the money! Buy it directly from the Dots through Terminal Kaleidoscope (it's not listed, but they do have it for sale), or from Vinyl on Demand, the manufacturers. The first pressing even comes with a bonus DVD of the "Echo Police" music video & interview from the late '80s. | | Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 | 10:10 am [lazarus834]

random sound sample appearance
Sorry for the slightly off-topic post here, but I thought I'd share this with you. I just heard this song lazydayz, by a band called lusine icl which is a techno-y electronica kinda song, but one of its distinctive features is a sound loop which sounds so much like one used in the middle of You and Me And Rainbows that it's haunting. Anyone who has listened to YAMAR a bunch of times is going to hear this song and immediately wonder if it's a sample or just a coincidence. If you like glitchy electronica, there are a 2 other tracks by Lusine Icl that I am quite fond of too: Chao and Dr. Chinme. Both worth downloading from slsk. | | Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 | 12:15 am [teir_garten]

Mix
So, speaking of mixes for friends, I just made one. It's long, but they have a lot of stuff. It's more or less a mix of classics, my favorite stuff, and good stuff for someone who hasn't heard very much, but is interested. I tried to give it a bit of flow, but I'm not sure how good a job I did. In any case, here's the track list - lemme know whatcha'll think. A Triple Moon Salute Voices Frosty Curious Guy The Hanged Man Waiting for the Cloud Fifteen Flies in the Marmalade Softly Softly The Man With the Cut-Glass Heart Soft Toy A Crack in Melancholy Time No Matter What You Do I Love You in Your Tragic Beauty Bella Donna The Light in My Little Girl's Eyes The Plasma Twins The Island of Our Dreams Mekkanikk Where No Man Hellsville Blacklist The Grain Kings The Pleasure Palace Green Gang Another Kind of Violence The Warden Poppy Day Damien Apocalypse Then Mmmmmm.... Under Glass Jewel in the Crown Hotel Noir Maniac The Made Man's Manifesto As Long as it's Purple and Green Defeated A Velvet Resurrection New Tomorrow Lucifer Landed New Tomorrow Zero Zero Fate's Faithful Punchline | | Monday, June 4th, 2007 | 5:51 pm [bewilderedhero]

Has anyone ever made a Pink Dots mix for a friend who's never heard them before? If so, what song did you start with? I don't think I really understood the band until I saw them live, and their more accessible songs aren't necessarily their best; in fact, some of their better stuff might be a little... off-putting at first. I'm thinking "The Ocean Cried Blue Murder," "Fate's Faithful Punchline," or "Zero Zero." | | Tuesday, May 29th, 2007 | 8:55 pm [teir_garten]

New tear garden release
Okay, so I got my hands on the new tear garden album. I plan on doing a review of it for my magazine soon enough, but I thought a few of you might be interested in what I thought of it at first; both for those of you who have heard it and those who haven't. If you have, I'd love to hear your thoughts as well, if you haven't, let me know them once you do. Here's the entry I posted in my personal journal about it: http://teir-garten.livejournal.com/73641.html | | Tuesday, February 27th, 2007 | 2:38 pm [teir_garten]

An Edward Ka-Spel/Silverman show is under negotiation for March 17, 2007 at Goudvishal in Arnhem,NL. If the show is confirmed, it will be in conjunction with Savage Republic, long-time favorites at Chez Dots. (This is HUGE! Savage Republic and the Pink Dots? Why the hell don't I live in Europe?!)The Pink Dots will tour Northern Europe in late April and early May. If you are a promoter or have useful tips, please direct your communications to Lisa Amend, who is in charge of LPD publicity and promotion (including the LPD websites). RELEASE NEWS: State of Union by The Silverman has been remastered with a 21-minute bonus piece added for a forthcoming release in Beta-lactam Ring's Black Series. For very obvious reasons...)The second Tear Garden release for Subconscious Communications' From the Vault series is in progress. It will feature all new material. (This is guaranteed to be the most amazing this 2007 offers me. If we're lucky, maybe they'll get off their asses and... I dunno, play a show, perhaps?)A 5xLP box set is in the works and will include Kleine Krieg, Chemical Playschool Part 2 Edition 2 and Live in Cologne 1983 as well as many surprise extras. The Pink Dots will be recording their next album throughout the course of 2007. (Glad to know they show no signs of slowing down.) | | Tuesday, November 7th, 2006 | 7:07 pm [dayzero]
